In practice

Do an audit

Look back at past domestic violence reporting in your work, your outlet, or in the media in general. What genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, languages, abilities, professions, income levels, religions, and other identities do you notice? Who is missing?

Cultivate new sources

To include more of the people in your community who are affected by domestic violence and paint an accurate picture of its prevalence, you might need to reach out beyond your usual sources.

Seek a variety of viewpoints

Diversity is not only about demographics. Reporting on domestic violence often includes the criminal justice system, and you may also find good stories and sources in health care, education, policy, and other settings.
